During my 17 years at Rice, I have contributed at Department, College, School and University levels.

Department Service: In addition to teaching, I serve as a Major Advisor for Computer Science. I am also the faculty supervisor for Computer Science Club.

School Service: For a number of years, I was a Divisional Advisor for the School of
Engineering covering Duncan College. I created a website that allowed divisional advisors to properly handle freshman planning across the SOE when they had various levels of AP credits.

College Service: I have been a faculty associate, first at Baker College and when Duncan College was formed, I became a Duncan College faculty associate. I served as one of Duncan College’s divisional advisors. I have been a distinguished faculty associate at both Baker College and Duncan College and was awarded the outstanding faculty associate at Duncan college.

Faculty Senate: I spent six years as a faculty senator including one year on the executive committee.

Schedule Planner: What will likely go down as my most important contribution to the Rice student community is the creation of the website SchedulePlanner.rice.edu. Virtually every undergraduate student at Rice depends on Schedule Planner to choose courses. On a typical day over 500 students will access the site with this number growing to over a thousand in an hour during peak registration times.

University Committees and Task Forces: I have been on the parking committee for well over a decade. was a member of the “Undergraduate Business Education for Engineering Students” task force.

Support of Music and in particular the Shepherd School of Music: I have a love of classical music and when I built my home in the Woodlands, I made sure it had a recital hall. This developed into a chamber music series that has put on 100 concerts over 17 years with an average attendance of over 100 people per concert. Our artists typically come from the Houston Symphony and the Shepherd School of Music. The majority of the Shepherd Schools instrumental faculty have performed as part of this series; however, what I am most proud of are the concerts we held every year comprised of Shepherd faculty and a number of Shepherd students.
